PORTION OF SECOND STREET TO CLOSE FOR TWO DAYS

Beginning Aug. 25, Second Street will be closed between Wilcox and Perry streets for two days while 21 (CPSB retractable) bollards are installed at four locations.

The short vertical posts will go into the west end of Second Street at Wilcox, east end of Second Street at Perry; the entrance to the alley on the north side of Second Street; and the Second Street entrance into the shopping center corner of Wilcox and Second.

The bollards will normally be retracted to be level with the road. During special events involving Second Street, or during other times when necessary, the bollards will be lifted to keep vehicle traffic from being able to enter Second Street.

The Federal Highway Administration recommends the installation of a barrier system such as bollards for road closures other than construction or maintenance.

More events — such as the Farmers Market and the Starlight Summer Movie Series — are scheduled for Second Street since Festival Park opened last year. The bollards improve the safety of those attending the event, but can be retracted quickly in case of emergency. The bollards and the installation are expected to cost about $44,000.
